TRANSCRIPT

Hi friends. It's been a tough week. There is a lot going on in Israel and Palestine and a couple of listers have reached out to me and wanted to talk about it. So, this has not been a political podcast, and I'm not an expert on the crisis, and, frankly, I'm still processing the events as they occur. So I don't have a take or a call to action, but I did want to let you know that I'm thinking of you all out there and that this is a safe space to learn, or think about everything, or just feel.

Given that there's a lot of confusion about how we got here or what possible next steps might look like, I've made a resource list. I put a link to them in the show notes, so you can find them either in your podcast app or on, onwandering.co. This list is in no way exhaustive and I'm very much open to suggestions. I've tried to include resources that are thoughtful and aligned with the goal of justice and liberation for all people in the region.

But I also wanted to just share a few reminders with you. First of all, Israel is one of the most contested pieces of land in history. It's been influenced by a lot of political, military, monetary, cultural, and religious powers. It's probably not a place that can be summed up in five Instagram slides, or a 280-character tweet, or even one article.

So, if you need to take a break from social media, definitely take a break. The answer to peace in the Middle East is probably not going to show up on Twitter while you're offline. And you might find that by taking a break, you have renewed energy that helps you think of a way to get involved.

If you have friends and family in Israel or Palestine, I am thinking of you and definitely check in on them and let them know that you're thinking of them. On this podcast, we embrace nuance and complexity, and there is plenty of that to go around when thinking about Israel and Palestine. You might have a connection to Israel either from personal experience or from being taught about Israel from family, Hebrew school, or just even the Passover story.

At the same time, you might not have any connection to Israel and you might feel a lot of pressure to have an opinion about a country you've never been to, or don't know that much about. It will probably take some time for us to sit with that polarity. It's okay to not speak up if you're not ready. Feel free to send me an email at hello@onwandering.co, that's hello@onwandering.co, and just let me know how you're doing. You can also connect with me on Twitter or Instagram at ClarissaRMarks. I'm interested to hear what's coming up for you.

So next week, our May episode is going to come out. It will be with Nicole Nowparvar of Chaya Community in LA. I'm really excited for you all to hear it. Until then stay safe, stay curious, and take care.
